Top 10 Must-Read American Classics

for Middle School

Now that we have finished celebrating Memorial Day, July 4th will be here before we know it. As a US History and Literature Teacher at True North Academy, celebrating our country's birthday and Independence Day is a BIG deal! Nevertheless, next year's celebration will be iconic, marking the US's 250th birthday and also known as the semiquincentennial. If you want to sound incredibly smart, throw that word around your friends. Semiquincentennial means half of 500 years!

How do you prepare for the US's Semiquincentennial? With books, of course! And why not start celebrating today? Next year's semiquincentennial matters for young readers now more than ever! Storytelling is powerful in shaping identity and empathy for America's past.

This book list introduces American history, culture, and values in age-appropriate ways.
